Weaning...

Today we officially start weaning from nursing. I don't think Elyse is really excited about it. She's learned to ask for milk and doesn't think a cup with cow's milk is much of a replacement. The goal is now to only nurse 3 times a day.

I don't think this is going to be easy. Does anyone have any tips???

Weaning was harder for me than for my daughter. (She's our last baby) I nursed 3 times a day, right after waking up, just before afternoon nap and right before bedtime. If you've already got the know how of the sippy cup kudos to you. Put pumped milk in the cups and slowly start mixing in whatever's next (cow's milk, soy, etc.) until that is the bigger ratio. A sudden full on switch is weird for kiddos and they'll most likely give (throw) it back to you. Just remember it takes time, don't rush each other, but be open to cues. Every baby is different. Blessings, Whitney

Thanks for the tips! That's great advice. I think putting some pumped milk into cups is a great idea. I think I'll give that a try.

I'll be facing this same thing when Xavier turns a year in December. Luckily he's not super attached to nursing, but it's a nice thing to have to get him to take a nap sometimes! Keep me posted if you find any more good tips!
