Visit from Nana

My mom came in town for a visit last week. We had a lot of fun.

We picked her up on Wednesday, went to storytime on Thursday, Ikea on Friday (can anyone possibly make it through that entire store with happy kids until the end) and Target on Saturday. All of our favorite places! :)

She brought Elyse some watercolors and a cute little smock she made! Elyse loved painting and sat and did it several times for a whole hour (a very long time for an almost two and a half year old).
She also used one of the quilts to make herself into a "burrito big girl."
And sweet Madelyn hung out, cuddled and enjoyed the show.

The Dora Backpack

I guess Elyse knows about the secret.

Yesterday while riding in the car, she told me she wanted a purple backpack just like Dora. But she did not want any maps in it (she was adamant about that).

Today we went to a big consignment sale. Look what we found...

All through the rest of the sale she keep asking me, "Does it have maps? I don't want any maps." No worries. There were no maps. Just some really fun Dora games.

I so admire her complete trust and complete faith. She said: I want this. I let the world know. It will show up in my life. It makes me wonder, what would I ask for if I had complete faith it would show up in my life?

Jesus said:
"I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

Oh my GANACHE!

It is a good thing I gave up sweets for Lent, because otherwise I think I would be eating an entire pan of these. All my favorite things together! (Can you imagine it with a little bit of slightly melted ice cream on top...my mouth is watering!) It is serendipity I came across this recipe. My friend Erica was telling me just the other day about her favorite treat at her hometown bakery. Brownies with cookies baked on top. Yum. And, as I was surfing blogs the other day, I came across this recipe. It adds ganache. My goodness.

I know I won't lose the recipe though because of my favorite new website/tool. It is www.kartme.com. I set up an account and it adds a little button to my toolbar. Everytime I come across something I want to save for later, I "kart" it. I now it seems a lot like bookmarking but it is better. I can create lists like "Recipes" and kart all my recipes there. So I guess I can do that with bookmarks too but Kart is still better. I'm not sure why.

Anyway, whatever it takes to be able to find this recipe on Easter, I'm totally for. And feel free to call me at midnight on April 4...I'll be digging into my Chocolate Chip Brownies.

Madelyn Joy-5 months!

Madelyn at five months is such a joy to us!

She smiles and laughs a lot. I've found her tickle spot, right on her chest by her armpits. She loves peek-a-boo and chuckles or looks back at us with a big open smile.

She has quite a set of pipes on her. She screams LOUD and HIGH (we've compared her to the melting witch at the end of the Wizard of Oz). Sometimes it's because she's happy and sometimes upset.

She is getting strong during tummy time and will pick up her head and look around.

She is reaching out and trying to grab things. She loves her toys, the octopus, giraffe and butterfly. She gets excited to see them coming.

She loves the exersaucer and has figured out how to turn the dials.
Her hair is beautiful, still growing (none of it has fallen out!). I can't quite tell the color of her eyes yet but they are getting darker and darker.

Sleep is becoming a bit of a challenge at night. Still waking up sometimes three times a night to eat. I'm not happy about that but we'll work on some sleep training once she reaches six months.

Here she is in the stroller. We've had some nice days lately and she's been able to spend time outside and even ride the big girl swing.
She is a great little cuddle bug and every member of our family loves hanging out with this little girl.

My little cupids

Ok, so I know this is totally late, but I just realized I never shared my cupid pictures here.

Since Elyse was born, I've dressed her up every Valentine's Day as a cupid. Valentine's Day is my favorite holiday (pink and red together, hearts, chocolate, how can you go wrong?!).

And this year I had two little cupids! It was right in the middle of being snowed in our house for FOREVER so it was something fun to keep me entertained.

Elyse was a little more cooperative last year...
And here's a shot of my two baby cupids together. Except for the dark hair, I don't think they look anything alike. (Which is kind of fun to me...it's cool to see a totally different mix of our genes).

And on a totally unrelated note, I found another picture I haven't posted here yet. It's of my genius husband. Remember the 2o inches of snow we had last month? Well, we didn't have a snow shovel and of course every store was sold out. Dennis went to Lowe's for one last look before the snow came. When he couldn't find a shovel he noticed this industrial sized dust pan (thank God we don't have that much dust). He had a stroke of genius and decided to buy it along with a broom stick. With a little duct tape he created our very own custom snow shovel. And would you believe it worked?
