Street Fair

Sometimes I forget that we live in such an awesome place.  Listen to these San Diego crazies...yesterday the DJs on the radio labeled the weather as a "Winter Storm."  It rained.  And the high was only in the 50s.  They talked of curling up with blankets by a fire.  Nuts, right?

One of the things I love about Oceanside is the Farmer's Market/Street Fair that happens each Thursday morning and evening.  This week my mom, the girls and I got dinner at the street fair.  They have tons of food vendors with some amazing delights.  We love the grilled shrimp burrito and cheesecakes in a cup.  Yummo!

I also took some pictures of other sights from the street...

Succulents (I'm sort of obsessed with these lately)

Fresh bread...

Dennis's favorte food location.  I admit the tri-tip sandwich is awesome!

And of course two silly girls...

If you want to come visit me, I promise to keep the temps above 50 and take you to this fun little market.

Valentine's Day

For some reason, it's my favorite holiday.  Pink, hearts, candy...who can go wrong?!

For the first few years of the girls' lives, I've had fun dressing them up as cupid.  It just makes me smile.  I wanted to share the pictures from Valentines past.

Elyse as a baby.

Elyse at one.

Elyse at two.

Madelyn as a baby!
Have a great Valentine's Day!

Sisters Day

I invented a new holiday to celebrate at our house.  We called it Sisters Day.

I think having a sibling is so important and I want to help build the relationship between the girls.  Hopefully we'll celebrate this day annually.

We celebrated with each girl giving the other a present and then a trip to Chuck-E-Cheese (who would have guessed we would be the only ones there at 9am on a Monday!)

Elyse and I painted these shirts for the girls yesterday too  They were super easy thanks to my Silhouette machine.  I used it to cut a stencil on freezer paper, we ironed it on and painted it with fabric paint (hopefully it will survive the wash).  Then my little artist had to add her own personal touch with some fabric markers.

Super fun day!  Elyse kept saying "I love sister's day!"  Four-year-olds are so easy to please! :)

A Message From the Heart

A few weeks ago, our girls got the chance to receive brand new daddy bears.

An admirable organization called "A Message from the Heart" provides a special bear from Build-A-Bear for kids whose mom or dad is a deployed Marine.  Before they go, the Marines recorded messages for each kiddo.  We met at Build A Bear for the kids to hear their special message place it inside a bear.

Both girls LOVED it.  Madelyn kept saying, "It's my friend Pappy" and Elyse's face lit up when she heard the message.  She wants to work at Build-A-Bear now.

This organization was started in honor of LCpl Jonathan Collins, KIA August 8, 2004. I am thankful for and inspired by his family's work to bring happiness to Marine families and to continue Jonathan's legacy.

If you would like to learn more about this organization or donate to the cause, check out the website here.

Family Pictures

My friend and neighbor, and amazing photographer, Sharon took pictures of our family a few months ago.  We thought the beach would be the perfect location, and it actually was, but not for the reasons we expected.  The fog was the worst I have ever seen.  We couldn't see 10 feet in front of us.

These pictures are amazing.  She was able to capture our family's moments, in spite of the fog.  And, in the end, I think the fog added some magic and mystery that never could have been achieved otherwise.

Thank you, Sharon!  I love the moments you captured with our family!

Sweet Girl

Here's my happy girl.  Some gaps still in her teeth but not much longer...those pointy ones are on their way in!

I played peek-a-boo behind my camera to get this smile.  One of the tips mentioned in this blog post on capturing real smiles in pictures.

Photo A Day Project

I think it's kind of funny that when I made my list of yearly goals, I mentioned that there is no way I could do a photo a day for a year and a month later, I have a picture calendar for every day in January.

It's all thanks to an app I got for my phone...Photo365.  These are all phone pics and in a perfect world, I'd love to have a picture from each day with my "good" camera, but I think these are pretty fun and help me remember the month of January.

I guess this "photo a day" thing for me is really meant to be because I just signed up for a photography class and the first week's assignment....start a Photo A Day project!  We're using the website Shuttercal and I think I'll switch to that program from now on.  It allows me to upload pictures from my phone or from the computer and as I'm trying to practice my good camera during this class, I'll try and use it as much as possible.  Here's the link to my Shuttercal account if you want to check it out: http://www.shuttercal.com/calendar/akatolin/
