Collage

The assignment for my photography class was to come up with two different collages with a common theme.  I came up with these two.  The first, my favorite series of pictures of Dennis and Madelyn.  Think they look alike?

The second, two pictures of Elyse, years apart, doing her favorite activity.  Hard to believe that's the same girl!

I had fun with these. I love the idea of grouping pictures with a common theme and I'll probably do some more in the future!

Art

This girl loves her art.  Give her some paper, markers, glue, scissors...she's in heaven.  The other day during her "hang out in her room instead of nap" time, she made this sign.  In case you can't read it it says "Delivery"  She made mail to deliver to her friends...

More photos, post nap, working on some pictures.

Post Brownies

We made brownies the other day and Madelyn got to lick the spoon.  Think she likes it?! (and PS, the batter raw-egg-free.)

Manual Mode

In my efforts to improve my photography, I've been taking an online class called Photosanity.  It's taught by a mom and photographer, and is all about getting better pictures of the kiddos.  I've learned a lot.  I really recommend it for anyone trying to learn more about using their DSLR to capture pictures about kiddos.

I like that it's not all technical camera stuff (actually, so far, very little has been about actual camera settings). She has taught us how to get kids to cooperate (still working on that one), find the right light, use the light you have, and record family life through pictures.

Last week's lesson was about some technical camera stuff, and I learned for the first time how to shoot in full Manual mode.

Here are the pictures I took.  I'm certainly still getting used to it but I'm excited about the freedom that I'll have when shooting.

Here are my first tries in manual mode.

Art Soup

We went to a place in Encinitas the other day called Art Soup.  It's a kids' art studio.  Totally fun.  There's little craft projects as well as lots of things for them to explore (and paint...including a real Volkswagen Beetle!)
