Six Months of Sammy!

Isn't he cute?!  Sam is such a sweet little guy.

Since the last time I wrote, we've had some milestones.  Two little teeth popped through the bottom gums. He's started rice cereal.  He's started saying "Dadadada" and blowing raspberries.

He's still pretty chill.  He lets us know when he needs something, either that he's hungry or tired.  He usually takes two naps.  Nighttime sleeping still leaves something to be desired, usually up twice at night.  We've worked on it a bit though, and made some improvements from waking every two hours a month or so ago.

Sam is a friendly little guy.  He'll share smiles with just about anyone willing to give him attention.  He's pretty willing to let anyone hold him.  He still really likes his sisters and especially LOVES Dennis.  He gets so excited (legs kicking, arms flapping) when Pappy comes to town.

We bought him an exersaucer (see below) for a steal, just $10 and loves it.  One of those little things plays music, and he really likes that.  Today I would start the music and dance a little bit.  He ate it up but as soon as the music stopped, he cried until it came back on.
Love those chunky legs!
Sam is doing great with the rice cereal.  Probably should introduce something else soon.  He gobbles it up and loves sitting in the high chair with the rest of the fam.
His eyes are no longer blue.  Maybe turning brown?  The jury is still out on that one.

He is usually pretty happy in the carseat (for which I am grateful!) and loves riding around the stores in the Ergo carrier (and usually conks out).
It's exciting to think about what is on the horizon for this guy.  Pretty soon he's going to be moving and talking.  Wonder what he has to say??
SO thankful for this little guy.

Madelyn at 4!

So far, four is pretty fun!

So what's new with our Maddy-Moo??

I told her that I was going to write an update on her and she told me, "Say that I can read and spell my name and that I know how to listen."

She started preschool this year and is doing great.  She goes two days a week, it's just perfect for us.  It's funny to hear the stories she reports back from school.  Madelyn loves playing "batgirl" with her friend Bella.  She tells me that two boys in her class are "always repeating us" and "it's so annoying."  She also told me that one day, a girl hit another kid, and "The teacher wasn't there so I was the teacher and I said, 'Remember, we don't hit.'"  She's loving it so far!

Madelyn is still our kid with an amazing imagination.  She loves to play with her toy figurines but if those aren't around, she will happily make "characters" out of anything from two forks to her socks to the toothbrushes.  It's so funny when I'm able to overhear the dialogue she creates with her characters.  She can happily play alone for a long time in her own made-up world.  Madelyn will befriend any creature she finds, especially little bugs she finds outside her window.  She calls them her little "buggies."  (But freaks out a bit if they are inside the window).
Madelyn is genuinely in love with Sam.  She loves being his big sister.  In the mornings, she'll hear him awake and sneak in to make silly faces and noises to him.  If he starts to fuss during the day, she will run over and love on him, and try to make him happy.  Sometimes, she just likes to lay with him on the floor and hang out.
We still have a pretty good sister relationship too.  Madelyn is excited when it's time to pick Elyse up from school each day.  She misses her playmate.  They get along pretty well, at least half of the time. :-)
Madelyn loves books and will sit and listen to one of us read a story.  She also likes to "read" the books herself and will come up with some rather dramatic versions of the story.
We call her "the protector" because she will stand up and defend anyone.  For example, if Dennis is tickling Elyse, she will go to Dennis and shout with all her might, "Stop that" and try and pull his 200 lbs away from Elyse.  I hope she never loses this courage and sense to stick up for those she loves.
This girl can be slow to move in the morning.  Sometimes takes some dragging out of bed.  She can take FOREVER to get ready.  A million times I'll say, "put your socks on."  We've started making it a race between the kids and the grown-ups to get ready to go in the morning and her competitive spirit thankfully kicks in!
Madelyn is my little buddy.  She's fun to have along at the grocery store or riding in the car.  We miss Elyse during the day but it has been nice to have some one-on-one time with this girl.  We have some great little conversations.
If we go walking anywhere, she loves to be "the leader."

Her favorites are pepperoni pizza, princesses, Disney music and dresses.  She still has an amazing sense of humor for a kid her age.  She's super funny.
Madelyn can write her name, spell a few words, knows all her numbers and letters.  Smart, funny and kind.  We have a great package, folks!
We love our Madelyn Joy and we are thrilled she is ours!

Elyse is 6!

"I'm sixy, sixy, sixy." Elyse shouted as she ran around the house a few weeks ago.  This girl was excited to be SIX!

The biggest change with this latest birthday is kindergarten!  Elyse is a school girl at heart and was so excited to start school.  She's doing fantastic!!  She gets into the car at the end of the day with a big smile on her face.  And I'm one of the lucky moms whose kid will actually tell me about her day.  She shares with me what they did during centers, funny things other kids said, and who she plays with at the playground (although at some point I usually get scolded for asking too many questions).
We'll have parent teacher conferences in a few weeks and I'm interested to hear what the teacher says, but I know that she is doing really well in school.  Elyse doesn't always feel like reading, but when she does, she can read SO MUCH of what I put in front of her.  She certainly prefers us to read, but sometimes I can convince her to read every other page and she reads with complete ease, only stumbling over a few words.  (I honestly am not sure how she figured it all out!).

I also know that she's doing great with math.  She thinks beyond the basics.  At school, they get "scoops of popcorn" when the whole class does something well.  Elyse has a running count, and the teacher said no kid has ever done that before!

Elyse is passionate and excited about anything she does.  We started Girl Scouts last week and she loves that (so excited to get some badges).  Also, she can come up with some crazy cool ideas to create and put it together on her own.  Last week, she created a video camera out of a box and a plastic cup.  Her mind is constantly moving, and she used that video camera to "film our family".

This girl still loves to laugh.  She finds Madelyn and Dennis super funny.  She chuckles at Sam sometimes too.  She's still missing her two top teeth so the toothless grin is awesome.

I'm excited to hear that Elyse has made some friends at school.  A few of them came to her birthday party and that was fun to see.
She started going to speech a few times a week to help her say her "k" and "g" sounds.
Elyse and Madelyn get along pretty well.  There is certainly some healthy sibling rivalry but they play great and have fun together.  Madelyn actually really misses Elyse during the day.

She can officially ride her bike without training wheels.  She is a determined girl and once she decided she wanted to do it, there was no going back.

This girl still loves art.  And money. She loves art class and was so excited to hear they were creating art for a fundraiser, until I explained that they would not get to keep the money. :-(

This girl is always thinking.  Always coming up with new ideas.  So smart and sweet.  We're so thankful to have her in our life.

Just some pictures for the blog...

Our birthday week has come to an end.  Nana and Grandpa are on their way back to St. Louis.  More pictures will be posted soon, along with the bi-yearly updates on the girls.  But for now, here are some pictures of our lovies.  Enjoy.
